Thirty Day Challenge Day 3
Thirty Day Challenge Day 3 2008
Today we learned how to use market samurai for analyzing seo competition. It does a sweet job of it. With the color coding you can just look at results and tell if it’s worth pursuing.
We were also given a refresher from last year on how to do it manually using the firefox/flock SEO plugin.
I started checking the seo comp results of some of my best keywords (unfortunately just a few so far) and “d*** it to h*** Bobby” if I didn’t stand a snowballs chance in h*** to compete. I might sneak in at the 11th position (top of page 2 on google) but I was out of business for capturing much traffic.
Ok….
I kept going tonight and finally found one keyword phrase that has the numbers I need. Still the seo competition is a little tough.
Thing is the sites that take the top two spots are just horrible from a aesthetic view and from a usability stand point. I would click away.
So I’m in on this one.
I know a lot about the subject, am passionate about it and would be making a site about it anyway simply becuase the sites I have found about the subject don’t fill the need I had when I first started researching the subject on my own.
The good news is the niche is growing and will be receiving some mainstream media coverage in th coming years, my seat of the pants prediction.
The monetization of the site is not to exciting. Mostly a nice selection of Amazon books. The high ticket items do not seem to have affiliate programs. The ones that do for the more expensive physical items are items I would not recommend for the niche.
But… if I can get some decent traffic – advertising opportunities for profit will be available.
So day 3 comes to a close.
Next up Day 4.
