Niche Keywords Mistakes
Just a tidbit I ran across in the forums from 2008 concerning niche keywords, micro niche keywords and setting up your blog.
All this will be covered during the 2009 thirty day challenge but something to keep in mind since many people tend to jump ahead.
Once you have found a niche that meets the criteria (last year it was 80 daily searches minimum with a minimum of 30,000 phrased matched competing sites) you need to setup your blog properly.
The domain should be your main keyword, the one that meets the criteria. Your blogs categories should be the other best sub keywords you found that most match the criteria.. If you found three other keywords your categories would be these keywords from the best one to the least.
Here is a quick example keyword “bearded dragon lizard” > blog name beardeddragonlizard.com (or best available). categories beardeddragonlizard.com/beardeddragoncare > beardeddragonlizard.com/buybeardeddragon > beardeddragonlizard.com/bearded dragon pet > and so on… (note this is just a loosely researched example as far as the criteria goes).
Some of my mistakes
Don’t flog a dead horse… if you setup a blog around your passion for breeding crayfish & it only gets 4 visitors a month. No matter how awesome your content… just let it go. No money there.
Beware the info blog… I made this mistake not long ago. Made a nice blog that delivers good content & videos. Many 1st page google results for my keywords. I get a decent amount of very targeted traffic. Problem is NO Buyers. My visitors are actively seeking the content to make a buying decision but they do not buy online they buy locally. The products they seek info on are usually available locally at a better price than online when you consider shipping. I targeted people looking for the best cheap product in certain categories. They aren’t inclined to buy in bulk or join a club that delivers various products they like monthly. Woops…
Adsense blogs… In the past I did pretty good with adsense by sheer number of sites. Then came the google slap & smart pricing. Ouch. IMHO I would not pursue adsense unless you plan to build an authority site, a very big authority site with lots of traffic. Definitely do not put adsense on your affiliate site or sales page, why send visitors away? Still amazed at the number of sites that trade a .05 click for a potential $24.95 profit from an affiliate sale.
